For Future Generations

As parents or teachers, we always hope to make a positive impact on our children and students.  We teach them manners, the ways of life, say prayers or have positive intentions for them, and we try to support them in their journeys.  One father’s prayer goes like this: “Give my son Solomon the wholehearted desire to obey all your commands, laws, and decrees, and to do everything necessary to build this Temple, for which I have made these preparations.”

What stands out to me is 3-fold.  First, is his wish that his son would have a wholehearted desire to live an upstanding life.  Life throws a lot of challenges at us and it is hard to not slip up.  But knowing that you can forgive yourself, and move through and past the challenges is comforting and encouraging.

Second, he wants his son’s life to have purpose.  We all want to know our purpose in life.  So many struggle to discover and understand their purpose.  If you haven’t discovered your purpose, or aren’t living your life with that purpose in mind and action, talk with someone who can help you get on that path (like a trusted counselor, coach or myself)

Finally, the father indicates that he has made preparations on behalf of his son.  Don’t leave the world a worse place than you found it.  Do your part to help others, recycle, clean up the earth and make the world a happier, stronger, more fulfilling place to live.

What ways will you begin setting a good example for those living presently and the future generations? (share below)
