Today I have a great verse and some inspiration to share with you. The verse is part of King David’s prayer of thanksgiving in 1 Chronicles 17. Verse 27 reads: “And now, it has pleased you to bless the house of your servant, so that it will continue forever before you. For when you grant a blessing, O Lord, it is an eternal blessing!”
Last Friday I talked about how we can each be a blessing within our own families. It is important to be a blessing to our families and to support them, but the truth remains that we are human and do make some mistakes. That in mind, this verse is talking about a blessing more like we would associate with a last will and testament or the blessing of a father to his sons. I’ve heard countless stories of people changing their will or mind in the last few weeks/years of their lives, after they have promised something to a child or grandchild. This makes us all reconsider what we’re told, as to whether we’re being told the truth or just a story to pacify us. But back to our story today, David is absolutely right, God does grant eternal blessings. This has many implications for those who are children of God.
An eternal blessing means it lasts through generations and through time. Land has changed hands over the years, and homes have been bought and sold. But God’s blessings aren’t limited to the results of wars, changes of political leaders or family lineage ending.
This eternal blessing includes eternal life for those who believe in Christ Jesus. Throughout history people have sought after earthly eternal life through fountains of youth, beauty products and diets. As far as I know no one has found the life they seek after. But by believing in Jesus, you are given that highly sought after blessing of eternal life.
Have you thanked God lately for the eternal, and otherwise, blessings He has given you? If not, stop and take a moment to do so right now. If you would like to learn more about that eternal blessing or about having a relationship with Jesus, I encourage you to get in touch with me or a spiritual leader in your area.
