Have you ever felt like you were born at the wrong time? Or that you should have been born at a different time? I’ve found someone who can identify with you:
“He (Jesus) was seen by Peter and then by the Twelve (apostles). After that, he was seen by more than 500 of his followers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died. Then he was seen by James and later by all the apostles. Last of all, as though I had been born at the wrong time, I also saw him. For I am the least of all the apostles. In fact, I’m not even worthy to be called an apostle after the way I persecuted God’s church. But whatever I am now, it is all because God poured out his special favor on me—and not without results. For I have worked harder than any of the other apostles; yet it was not I but God who was working through me by his grace.” 1 Corinthians 15:5-10
These are the words of a man by the name of Saul, Saul of Tarsus. As Saul he was raised in the Jewish faith and was going to become a Pharisee, an important Jewish leader. On that path Saul chose to persecute Jesus’ followers until one day, as the passage references, Jesus appeared to Saul. Jesus changed Saul’s opinion of himself, and changed his name to Paul, and Saul, now Paul, did a 180 and started spreading Jesus’ message, not the message of the Jews. While Paul was alive while Jesus was on earth, he never met him.
But there was a reason that Paul ran in a different circle, or seemed to have been born at the wrong time. All that happened before Paul saw Jesus was preparation for what his true purpose was.
You may feel like Paul, thinking that you’ve been born in the wrong time or place. While you may indeed be suited for a different time or place, consider that your birth was at exactly the right time for your purpose. Rather than complaining or removing yourself from things because you feel like you’re out of place, learn the lessons that you’re being given. You never know how those lessons will serve you in the future.
