Today we begin a look at some of the emotions of Christmas, beginning with love. John 1:14 says:
“So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.”
The Christmas Story (as told in the Bible) is the beginning of one of the greatest love stories ever told. There’s action, drama, intrigue, bad guys and even death in the story. But the story begins simply, with a baby and His parents who welcome Him despite the strange situation of his arrival.
This beginning is one immersed in and surrounded with love. The baby itself was made of and sent because of love. This baby came to share love and hope with a world in desperate need for reassurance that someone does indeed care about each and every person.
It’s not unlike our world today. We all need an encouraging word and loving touch, especially on days when the world seems to fall apart at our touch.
The Christmas season is a perfect time to share love with anyone in the world. You’ve got the best excuse in the world to be kind and considerate to someone else; when they ask, just say “It’s Christmas!”
Ultimately true Christmas love is about the birth of Jesus into the world, so I do encourage you to share the spiritual beginnings of Christmas with someone this year. But if you chicken out or can’t find the words, know that just showing love is better than doing nothing at all.
