A Mother’s Love

This weekend in the USA, we celebrated Mother’s Day, so I thought today we’d talk about the one thing that is often synonymous with mothers: love.  There is nothing like a mother’s love. It can repair young broken hearts, make us smile after a long day and of course make food taste extra delicious. When it is all boiled down, essentially that’s a mother’s job: to love, and love unconditionally.  Of course there are some mothers who aren’t able to handle all of the responsibilities of being a mother.  Fortunately there are men and women who are able to take up the slack and make a positive impact in a child’s life.  It’s not easy to be a mother, any kid comes with their challenges and rough moments, but in most cases the benefits and results far outweigh the downsides.

The choice each of us have to make, whether we’re parents or not, is whether or not to let the bad stuff outweigh the good stuff.  When we choose to let the bad stuff win, we’ll find more than just a few problems cropping up in our lives.  But when we choose to love and focus on the good stuff, we’ll be stronger and more capable of getting through the tough times when the do show up.  God never promised that because we were Christians we’d avoid all of the bad stuff, we’ve just got some extra tools and support for when the bad stuff crosses our path, like love.

The biggest benefit to focusing on love however, is the feeling you get when the other person receives your love.  That moment when they know they’re valued and special to you is like nothing else in the world.  Will you choose to love today?

“So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.” John 13:34
